Fresh Start

A one-day workshop to get your groove back

Sunday, September 30, 2018 • 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. • SE Portland, OR

Mid-life moms are carrying too much

With the constant demands of raising our children, nurturing our relationships, running our households, and being superstars at work, mid-life moms’ wellbeing often ends up at the end of the never-ending to-do list, to be addressed someday.

Meanwhile, we are carrying weight and regrets and resentments and outlived commitments and identities that rob us of joy, erode our vitality, and compromise our relationships. We can’t afford to run on fumes any more.

Someday has arrived. It’s time to get your groove back.

Fresh Start helps you break a cycle that has been robbing you of life force for years—then commit to a practice to get your groove back.

  • Let go of something—a habit or practice or way of being that doesn’t serve you—and replace it with something better
  • Make a pivot toward wellbeing that’s felt out of reach
  • Chart a specific course to getting your groove back

Sage is a guide for how to get through the really hard stuff. Not just get through it—GROW through it. And not just grow yourself—grow a child, a family, and a new story.Karen

I got my groove back, and so can you!

Hi, I’m Sage Cohen!

I went through a devastating miscarriage + divorce one-two-punch when my son was two years old. This left me depleted and grief-stricken, running a household, a business, and a family (including five pets) on my own. Rage and blame were my constant companions. Lack of sleep unmoored me. And this became a gateway to a relationship with carbs and sugar and Netflix that weighed me down.

Eventually, I tired of being miserable and set out to find a better way forward. As an author of four books, a seasoned life coach, and the founder (since 1997) of a marketing firm, I started working with the tools I had available to me. I shaped new attitudes, practices, and stories that helped me release my pain, reclaim my power, restore my wellbeing, and get my groove back.

The moment everything changed was when I realized joy was an inside job. No one could take it from me, and no one could give it to me—except me. I stopped complaining, took responsibility for my happiness (using what hurt me to heal me), and started teaching others to do the same.

I’ll show you how.

Sage is an invaluable sounding board. I love her thoughtful insights and the way she invites me to look at tough situations through different angles—all with workability in mind. Now I can do more than “get through” the inevitable stumbling blocks. Thanks to Sage, I spend less time in upset and can find opportunity in every challenge.Pamela

Let it go! Let it go!

Even under the best of circumstances, by the time most mothers arrive at mid-life, we have been bumped and bruised along the way. Whether you have an ailing parent, a struggling child, a hormonal tidal wave, an illness or injury, a mountain of debt, or any number of challenges that so many of us grapple with over the years, you can still choose to thrive – right now.

You already have all the skills from supporting and nurturing everyone else in your life.

Together, we’ll focus that laser beam of love on you.

Together, we will do a powerful transformation ritual to let go of what’s in your way, complete the past, and find fresh and invigorating ways forward. Maybe you’re still mourning a pet who died a decade ago or telling yourself that you can’t sing because your third-grade teacher said so. Maybe you want to sell your house or renegotiate your marriage or become a trapeze artist. Or maybe you want to release:

  • A habit like sugar, alcohol, nail-biting or Netflix
  • A mistake, failure, or loss that still hurts
  • Challenges with money, sex, or sleep
  • Creativity blocks, clutter, or extra weight
  • Dissatisfaction with relationships or work

At Fresh Start, you will lay down something heavy you’ve been carrying for far too long. Then fill the space with something juicy and wonderful and just right for you.

      Make a Fresh Start

Let go of something that doesn’t serve you. Replace it with something that does.

Fresh Start a structured, one-day journey to reset one dimension of your wellbeing. Through a series of written and interactive prompts and exercises, live individual and group coaching, poems to inspire and awaken you, and a collective ritual, you will:

      • Identify or clarify what you’re releasing

In a safe and supportive circle of women, you will choose something you are ready to let go (a habit, practice, belief, or grudge). You will investigate what led you to make this choice and the need you were trying to meet. Together, we will welcome any and all feelings that move through.

      • Do a powerful ritual of completion

You will let go of whatever you choose in a way that honors your past and your present. And you will declare yourself complete.

      • Choose something better

You will identify and commit to a new way forward (a habit or practice or story or belief) that will serve your better. Then you’ll chart your course in this direction by generating a range of possibilities and ways to start fulfilling this new desire or goal.

You will go home with a collection of worksheets you’ve completed, notes you’ve taken, poems we’ve contemplated, possibilities you’ve generated, and connections you’ve made to support you on your journey.

        Does this sound like you?

        • You’re so busy taking care of everyone and everything else that you’ve stopped factoring your own wellbeing into the equation.
        • You’re tired of being tired (or sore, lethargic, depressed, lonely—or any other state of being that does not delight you).
        • When you look in the mirror, you don’t recognize the person you see.
        • You used to have hobbies or habits or adventures that filled you up. Now you’re not even sure what you enjoy doing.
        • You know what you love to do, but you don’t know how to create the space in your life to do it.
        • You’re ready to improve what’s not working in your life, but you’re not sure where to start or what it will take.
        • You yearn to spend a day that’s just for you, attending to your own wellbeing.
        • I would not be where I am today if it wasn’t for Sage walking alongside and blazing the trail via her writing and practicing. Witnessing Sage’s fierce determination to not get stuck in the story of blame and victim helped me so much. I am grateful for her willingness to grieve openly and to be open to grace—to write about it, and to share it.Zia

          FAQ

What if I don’t even know where to begin with getting my groove back?

That’s the perfect place to start! Through a series of exercises, prompts, and conversations, you’ll have an opportunity to discover your authentic place to begin the journey to get your groove back.

Can I really let go of huge issues such as exhaustion or sugar addiction in a single day?

Yes! You can (and will) decide to break a cycle or interrupt a pattern in a single day. Then, you will generate ideas and make commitments to move yourself toward a way of being that serves you better. This may not cure your issue overnight. But it will set you on the path to resolving it.

Do I have to be a mid-life mom to participate?

Absolutely not! The principles and practices we’ll cover work for anyone who wants to let go of something that’s not serving and replace it with something better. It’s important, however, that you feel comfortable being in conversation and community with mid-life moms. Because many of the examples I will share and topics we will cover relate to this life chapter.

I don’t live in Portland, Oregon. Is there another way to participate in this course?

Yes! I plan to develop an online version of Fresh Start in the future for people who are unable to participate in person. Send me an email at sage@sagecohen.com if you’d like to be notified when it’s ready.
