The Haven is a microschool of five sixth graders in the SE Woodstock neighborhood of Portland, Oregon. We are seeking an inspired teacher to join us.
Who we are
We are a cohort of students/families from Winterhaven middle school (a STEM focus school), with a shared base curriculum and academic context. We are seeking a teacher to support three (or more, depending on PPS) days of out-of-school learning.
Who you are
You have a teaching credential and lots of exciting ideas for educating in new and innovative ways. You are a well-rounded, creative, skilled instructor who can adapt to the needs/interests of a small group. You have a diverse background that includes math, science, and humanities expertise at middle-school grade level. You see the opportunities and possibilities for making microschooling a transformational learning adventure.
What
Instructor will support 6th grade cohort’s intellectual, social, and emotional engagement with learning and community-building. Specifically, they will offer:
- Support in successful online learning as necessary
- Supplemental, student-led education in English, math, science, history, geography, civics, activism
- Art, games, movement, and enrichment
Where
Our pod school will meet in a large garage / studio in SE Woodstock neighborhood. The space can accommodate both social distancing and fresh air. We are in walking distance of Woodstock Park and Reed Canyon. The school includes a large yard, play structure, and three garden beds for planting—plus access to a bathroom and kitchen inside the main house.
